The ‘Vision and Implementation Document Limburgish Language’ (‘Visie- en realiseringsdocument Limburgse Taal’) first provides background information on Limburgish, and then discusses the legal aspects of regional language and the role of the government. Although Limburgish was recognized under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in 1997, little active language policy has been implemented. The national government has largely shifted responsibility for language policy to the province, although the central government remains responsible under international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document emphasizes that the province of Limburg, possibly in collaboration with municipalities, can actively pursue language policy even without central government support. Two policy tracks are proposed: first, using existing regulatory powers by the province and municipalities; and second, concrete actions in various areas such as education, media, and culture. Digital infrastructure and nearly budget-neutral initiatives are proposed to normalize and widely use the Limburgish language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
